Viaggio in Italia

The Joyces are an English couple who have gone to Italy to sell a recently inherited property near Naples. The coldness of their relationship is enhanced by the trip, with her reminiscing about a poet who loved her and died in the war, and him idling on Capri, flirting with a woman and retreating from adultery at the last moment. This deceptively simple tale of a bored couple becomes a passionate story of cruelty and cynicism in the hands of Rossellini, as the marriage disintegrates.
